OPENING BIAS: Muted-positive indication; treat any bounce as a test, not a reversal.
EXECUTIVE SIGNAL
Tuesday answered yesterday’s question. Nifty opened higher but reversed sharply to 23,118.60 (-1.19%), a five-month low. Financials fell ~1.8% and autos ~2%, while IT gained ~2.2%. The key change is that domestic absorption no longer prevented price damage: FII -₹2,977.86 Cr, DII +₹2,686.05 Cr, combined -₹291.81 Cr; large-cap breadth only 9 advances vs 41 declines. FII index-futures positioning also remained heavily defensive at roughly 291,052 contracts net short.
TODAY’S CATALYST BOARD
FED — #1 global catalyst: A 25-bp hike is heavily priced. The tradable information is the reaction in the U.S. 10Y and dollar after the decision, not the headline hike itself.
OIL — marginal relief, not normalization: Brent eased toward $107.8 after API reported a surprise 7.1m-barrel U.S. crude build. Saudi’s East-West pipeline remains disrupted, although U.S. officials expect flows could resume within days. For India, >$100 oil keeps the inflation/INR/rates transmission active.
PAYTM / PINE LABS — policy transmission: New UPI/MDR developments put fintech/payment names in focus. Treat stock moves as policy-specific until sector breadth confirms.
NBCC / BHEL–TITAGARH — stock catalysts: NBCC has fresh orders; BHEL and Titagarh have a trainset-maintenance JV. Useful breakout candidates only if price > VWAP + participation/OI confirms; headlines alone are insufficient.
IT — hostile-tape relative strength: IT was the standout Tuesday despite the index selloff. Today test whether that persists with Price > VWAP + fresh long OI + sector breadth, rather than assuming yesterday’s move continues.
GLOBAL → INDIA TRANSMISSION
Brent ~$107.8 | U.S. 10Y >5% | USD firm | USDINR 95.955 | India 10Y ~7.09%
The chain is now visible in market prices:
Oil ↑ → inflation risk ↑ → Fed/RBI tightening expectations ↑ → yields ↑ → INR pressure ↑ → valuation compression.
RBI intervention likely slowed Tuesday’s rupee decline, but ₹96/$ is now the critical stress threshold.
MICROSTRUCTURE
Tuesday’s nearest-expiry snapshots showed the option structure migrating lower after the selloff. Fresh-expiry data must be rebuilt this morning rather than carrying expiry-day PCR mechanically.
23,000–23,100: first defence / psychological battlefield
23,200: immediate reclaim
23,300: emerging Call-OI supply area
23,400–23,500: major structural repair zone
Bullish evidence: 23,100/23,000 holds → VWAP reclaim → Price ↑ + OI ↑ + breadth repairs + Bank Nifty confirms + INR moves away from 96.
Short-cover only: Price ↑ + OI ↓.
Bearish continuation: 23,000 breaks + Price ↓ + OI ↑ + breadth remains poor + USDINR >96.
WHAT CHANGED
Deteriorated: positive opening failed; Nifty lost 23,300/23,200; FII selling accelerated; DII buying failed to offset it; breadth collapsed; INR weakened; U.S. yields remain >5%.
Marginally improved: Brent eased overnight on the U.S. inventory build, and the Saudi bypass pipeline may return sooner than feared.
ACTIONABLE AA RESEARCH
1. Gap-Failure Score: positive pre-market/open → VWAP rejection → OI/breadth deterioration. Tuesday is a clean training sample.
2. DII Absorption Failure Index: DII buying relative to FII selling × Nifty damage × breadth.
3. Call-Wall Migration Velocity: measure how quickly resistance OI moves downward after support failure.
4. Hostile-Tape RS Scanner: find stocks with Price > VWAP + D/F positive + Participation ↑ + fresh long OI while Nifty remains weak.
AA BIAS:
RISK-OFF | LONG BREAKOUTS REQUIRE EXCEPTIONAL RELATIVE STRENGTH.
ONE THING TO WATCH
₹96 USDINR × 23,000 Nifty.
If Nifty defends 23,000 while INR stabilises below 96 and breadth repairs, institutional absorption may be returning. If 23,000 breaks as USDINR pushes through 96 with fresh downside OI, macro stress is transmitting into another leg lower.
