Domestic Absorption | Foreign Distribution

23 September 2026

OPENING BIAS: Cautious-negative. Latest public GIFT Nifty snapshot:
~23,334, -66 (-0.28%).

GLOBAL RISK
External conditions are better than Indian internals: Brent has slipped below $100 as Saudi export-route restoration and possible
U.S.–Iran diplomacy reduce immediate supply fears. U.S. 10Y eased toward ~4.93–4.98%; Asian tech markets are firmer. Macro relief exists, but India failed to convert it into risk-taking yesterday.

INDIA / FLOWS
Nifty closed 23,329 (-0.36%); 14/16 major sectors fell and IT lost ~0.9%. FII cash -₹3,810 Cr versus DII +₹4,120 Cr. FII index-futures positioning expanded to ~302,908 net short contracts. This is aligned foreign distribution—cash selling + futures shorts—being absorbed domestically, not confirmed accumulation.

MACRO TRANSMISSION
USDINR strengthened ~0.2% to 95.59 as Brent fell and state-bank dollar sales were reported. India 10Y remains around 7.05%; RBI has cut banking-system surplus liquidity ~55% to ₹4.92tn through bond sales, reverse repos and FX operations. Oil↓/INR↑ are supportive; tighter domestic liquidity and rate-hike expectations remain restrictive for banks/valuations.

MICROSTRUCTURE
Nifty: 23,290 first pivot; 23,165–23,100 defence; 23,000 structural Put wall. Supply: 23,446–23,500; 23,600 is the regime-change
threshold. 23,500 holds max Call OI ~89.79L with +33.37L fresh writing; 23,000 max Put OI ~95.16L. PCR fell 1.20→0.94. Short build-up appeared in 105 F&O stocks versus 39 long build-ups: breadth underneath the index deteriorated.

BANK NIFTY CONFIRMATION
Close ~56,216. Resistance 56,547/56,680; support 56,116/55,983. Fresh Call writing was heaviest at 56,500 while 56,000 Puts unwound. For a credible long-breakout environment require Bank Nifty >56,500 + VWAP + broad private-bank participation + fresh long OI.

TODAY'S CATALYST BOARD
1) OIL < $100 — strongest India-positive macro catalyst, but yesterday's failed conversion makes price/flow confirmation mandatory.
2) RBI LIQUIDITY — surplus down ~55%; WACR has moved close to the 5.25% repo rate. Supportive for INR/inflation control, less supportive
for liquidity-sensitive risk assets.
3) IT — sector fell despite global AI/tech strength. Treat this relative weakness as information; Nasdaq strength alone is not an Indian IT breakout signal.
4) ADANI — four group firms settled SEBI disclosure proceedings for ₹15.1m without admitting/denying allegations. Treat any reaction as group-specific unless index contribution, breadth and derivatives confirm propagation.
5) COAL INDIA — +3.2% Tuesday after a Morgan Stanley upgrade; require mining/PSU breadth + futures OI + VWAP to classify it as sector rotation rather than isolated alpha.

WHAT CHANGED
Yesterday's favourable oil/yield/INR setup did NOT convert: Nifty fell, 14/16 sectors declined, FII cash selling accelerated, FII shorts rose, PCR fell and the 23,500 Call wall strengthened. This is a failed Macro Relief Conversion event.

AA RESEARCH
Build a Macro Relief Conversion Score: ΔBrent + ΔUS10Y + ΔUSDINR → Nifty/Bank relative strength + breadth + FII cash + FII futures Δ + OI migration. Label 22 Sep as LOW CONVERSION.
Add an Institutional Divergence Index: DII absorption − FII cash selling + FII futures direction + client positioning. Use both scores to govern breakout capital rather than the number of technical triggers alone.

HIGHEST-VALUE SIGNAL
23,500 CALL WALL × BANK NIFTY 56,500 × FII SHORTS. Bullish confirmation requires Nifty >23,500 + material 23,500 Call unwinding + Put OI migration toward 23,400/23,500 + Bank Nifty >56,500/VWAP + breadth >65% + FII shorts contracting from ~303k. If
price bounces without those confirmations, classify it as relief/short-covering—not institutional accumulation.
