Foreign Distribution + Macro Stress

Institutional Morning Brief | 25 September 2026

BIAS: STRONGLY BEARISH
OPENING BIAS: Flat-to-mildly positive gap; treat any early rebound as a test of supply, not a reversal.

GIFT NIFTY: ~23,124–23,130 | mildly positive
NIFTY CLOSE: 23,063.10 | -1.64%
INDIA VIX: 12.68 | +22.64%

GLOBAL RISK
The overnight relief is limited. Brent is easing ~0.7% this morning but remains near $105.9, while the U.S. 10Y is around 5.2%, keeping the global discount-rate shock alive. For India, oil >$100 + high U.S. yields remain a hostile combination through inflation, INR, domestic yields and foreign-flow pressure.

INDIA / FLOWS
Thursday was broad risk-off: Nifty -1.64%, financials led the damage, midcaps fell >2% and smallcaps ~1.5%.
FII cash: -₹5,027 Cr
DII cash: +₹4,301 Cr
Net institutional cash: -₹726 Cr

More important: FII index-futures net shorts expanded to about 309,822 contracts, up 11,209 shorts versus Wednesday. Cash selling + increasing futures shorts = directional foreign risk reduction, not merely passive hedging.

MICROSTRUCTURE
Nifty PCR collapsed from 1.03 to 0.81.
23,500: max Call OI ~1.35 Cr
23,200: +1.04 Cr fresh Call writing
23,300: +74.95L Call writing
23,000: max Put OI ~1.17 Cr
23,400: -75.66L Put unwinding

This is a major structural change: yesterday’s 23,300–23,400 support migrated into overhead supply. 23,000 is now the key defence. A rebound into 23,200–23,300 without Call unwinding is likely supply/short-covering, not accumulation.
Bank Nifty confirms the stress: 56,000 Calls +6.37L while 56,000 Puts unwound -3.59L. The former support zone has weakened. Requires Bank Nifty to reclaim VWAP and 56,000 with breadth before trusting long index breakouts.

TODAY’S CATALYST BOARD
Oil: Brent easing, but ~$106 remains too high to qualify as India macro relief. Watch whether oil falls enough to pull USDINR back from Thursday’s 95.96 close.
Rates: U.S. 10Y ~5.2% is today’s dominant global risk variable.
India borrowing: Government officials are expected to discuss the Oct–Mar borrowing calendar today; bond supply composition matters, with RBI already draining liquidity.
Corporate catalysts: Axis Bank, Godrej Consumer, Sanofi India, Dr Lal PathLabs, Waaree Energies and Kalpataru Projects have company-specific triggers. Do not extrapolate isolated strength: require sector breadth + futures OI + VWAP acceptance before treating any move as institutional contagion.

WHAT CHANGED
Wednesday: FII buying + Put migration + breadth repair.
Thursday: FII -₹5,027 Cr + FII futures shorts ↑ + PCR ↓ + 23,400 Put collapse + Call walls migrated lower + VIX +22.6%.
That is not merely a red session. It is a failed absorption test.

AA RESEARCH IDEA
Build a Support-to-Resistance Migration Velocity signal:
Put unwinding at prior support + fresh Call writing at the same/nearby strikes + futures OI + VWAP rejection + breadth.
Thursday is an excellent labelled example.

ONE SIGNAL TO WATCH: 23,000 DEFENCE × 23,200 CALL WALL × BANK NIFTY VWAP

Repair: Nifty holds 23,000 → reclaims 23,200 → 23,200 Calls unwind → Bank Nifty reclaims VWAP → breadth >60%.
Continuation: 23,000 breaks → Put unwinding → fresh short OI → Bank Nifty remains below VWAP → USDINR >96.
Until the first sequence appears, keep long-breakout capital selective even if GIFT opens green.
